According to the 45th Separate Artillery Brigade, footage released on July 13 shows Ukrainian forces first identifying the camouflaged howitzer before using a drone-dropped munition to ignite its position. The brigade said neighboring units then struck the artillery crew, while follow-up artillery fire and attack drones destroyed the weapon itself.

The brigade described the operation as a coordinated effort involving multiple branches of Ukraine’s Defense Forces. In a statement accompanying the video, the unit said the strike was carried out through “coordinated actions with neighboring units of the Third Army Corps.”

The brigade added that Ukrainian forces initially set fire to the concealed artillery position before conducting precision strikes with artillery and unmanned aerial systems to eliminate the 2A36 Giatsint-B. The unit stated that the operation deprived Russian forces of another long-range fire support asset.

The Soviet-designed 2A36 Giatsint-B is a 152 mm towed field gun capable of engaging targets at ranges exceeding 28 kilometers with conventional ammunition and significantly farther with rocket-assisted projectiles. The system remains in widespread use by Russian forces for long-range artillery missions.

The published footage is one of a series of videos released by Ukrainian military units documenting drone-assisted counter-battery operations targeting Russian artillery systems along the front line.

The strike comes as Ukraine continues expanding its drone-led counter-battery campaign. According to Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukrainian forces hit more than 200,000 verified Russian targets in June, setting monthly records for destroyed artillery systems, military vehicles, and intercepted Russian drones while increasing strikes deep behind the front line.
