Lithuania Requests Military Deployment to Guard Border Near Russian Exclave

Lithuanian Interior Minister Martynas Katelinas has requested military deployment from the defense minister to assist border guards along the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region.
While the situation on the border remains quiet, officials describe the move as a preventive measure following a security incident on the border with Latvia and amid potential signals that Russia might announce mobilization.

“After yesterday's incident on the Latvian border, having assessed the general security situation in the region and signals that Russia may declare mobilization, we are taking additional preventive measures. I turned to Minister of Defense Robertas Kaunas with a request to involve forces of the Lithuanian Army to assist border guards in protecting the border with the Kaliningrad region,” Katelinas stated on social media.
The interior minister reassured the public that the border is fully secured and that Lithuania stands ready for any developments.

On September 29, Russia directly threatened NATO with nuclear retaliation if the alliance attempted to blockade or attack its Kaliningrad exclave.
The statement was issued by the Russian Embassy in the United Kingdom in response to British media coverage analyzing the region's military vulnerability in a potential war between Russia and NATO, with Moscow warning that any attack on its territory would be met with all available military means.
