Sobyanin said Russian air defense forces were repelling the attack and claimed that more than 30 drones had been shot down on approach to the city since midday.

In a statement posted on Telegram, Sobyanin said emergency services had been deployed to locations where drone debris fell. He did not report any casualties, injuries, or significant damage resulting from the attack.

The Telegram channel Exilenova+ published a video showing one drone passing over the city, while air defense systems could be seen engaging an aerial target.

“The operation of Moscow’s air defense, the so-called ‘dome’ of the Russian Federation. We can see that during mass raids, they are only capable of hitting residential buildings. Attacks on Moscow itself need to be intensified—locals should feel the realities of the so-called ‘special military operation’,” the channel wrote.

Just a day earlier, on June 18, a large-scale drone attack targeted Moscow and the surrounding Moscow region in the early hours of June 18, with some of the drones reaching the Moscow Oil Refinery.

Russian Telegram channels reported drone activity across the capital and nearby areas, sharing videos that appeared to show unmanned aerial vehicles flying over Moscow.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said several drones struck the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district, approximately 15 kilometers southeast of the Kremlin. He added that authorities were responding to the aftermath of the attack.

“Air defense forces continue to repel the massive attack. Several drones managed to reach the Moscow Oil Refinery. Measures are being taken to deal with the consequences,” Sobyanin said.

Additonally, on June 16, Ukrainian long-range drones struck the Moscow Oil Refinery during an overnight operation, hitting a strategic facility located roughly 15 kilometers from the Kremlin despite the extensive air defense network surrounding the Russian capital.

According to Defense Express, the target was the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district. Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces said the strike was carried out in coordination with the Special Operations Forces, the Main Intelligence Directorate, and the Security Service of Ukraine.

Following the strike on June 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia will continue conducting regular large-scale attacks against Ukraine under direct instructions from Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Lavrov portrayed the strikes as part of an ongoing directive issued by Putin in his capacity as Russia’s Supreme Commander-in-Chief, adding that the Russian military would continue carrying out the order on a sustained basis.
