Nuclear-Host Belarus Threatens Ukraine With “Entire Arsenal” Over Border Security

Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Sekreta has claimed that Minsk would use its “entire arsenal” if Ukrainian forces crossed Belarus' state border, a statement that comes amid renewed rhetoric from Belarusian officials over alleged threats from Ukraine.

Speaking to Russian state broadcaster RT, Sekreta said Belarus would respond with “its entire potential” to any unauthorized or hostile crossing of its border. His remarks are notable because Belarus hosts Russian tactical nuclear weapons deployed after Moscow and Minsk expanded their military integration.
“If the border is crossed without permission or accompanied by aggression, we will respond using our entire potential. Our Ukrainian neighbors know this,” Sekreta said in the interview with RT.
He added that Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko had “clearly defined” the country’s red lines, describing Belarus' borders as one of them.

Although Sekreta did not explicitly mention nuclear weapons, Belarus currently hosts Russian tactical nuclear weapons as well as nuclear-capable Iskander-M missile systems.
Russia announced the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus in 2023 after amending Belarus' constitution to allow nuclear weapons on its territory. Moscow has repeatedly stated that the weapons remain under Russian control.
In addition to tactical nuclear weapons, Belarus has received Russian Iskander-M missile systems capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads. Belarusian Su-25 aircraft have also been modified for potential nuclear missions, with their crews trained by Russia. More recently, Minsk announced the deployment of Russia’s nuclear-capable Oreshnik missile system on Belarusian territory.
The statement follows several weeks of heightened rhetoric between Minsk, Moscow, and Kyiv. Belarus has remained a close military ally of Russia throughout the full-scale invasion, allowing Russian forces to use its territory during the initial assault on Ukraine in 2022 and continuing to host Russian military infrastructure and nuclear assets, although it has not officially deployed its own troops to fight in Ukraine.
