Poland has launched a special security operation along its border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region, deploying additional police and counterterrorism forces following intelligence warnings of possible armed incursions and sabotage.

According to Polish broadcaster RMF24 on November 2, the operation involves police, military personnel, border guards, counterterrorism units, and intelligence services. Security measures have been reinforced across northeastern Poland, particularly in the Warmian-Masurian and Podlaskie regions.
Poland’s national police chief, Marek Boroń, confirmed that a special operational headquarters had been established at the National Police Headquarters to coordinate the response. Regional police commands in Olsztyn and Białystok are also participating.

The operation was launched after Poland’s Military Intelligence Service and allied intelligence agencies warned last week of potential security incidents along the Russian border in the coming days.
The warnings reportedly included the possibility of armed groups attempting to cross into Polish territory from Russia’s Kaliningrad region, a Russian exclave located between Poland and Lithuania.
In response, Polish authorities deployed additional police units from several regions to strengthen security along the border.
Speaking to RMF FM, Boroń said the operation was intended to protect local residents and critical infrastructure against potential threats. He linked the increased security measures to concerns about sabotage, hybrid criminal activity, and operations by intelligence services from countries to Poland’s east.

The police chief confirmed that substantial security forces were already operating in the area, including specialized counterterrorism personnel working alongside the military, border guards, and intelligence agencies.
Polish authorities emphasized that the operation was preventive, with no confirmed sabotage incidents or armed border crossings reported in connection with the deployment.
The operation comes amid growing concerns over Russian-linked sabotage in Poland. In September, suspected operatives linked to a Turkish criminal organization allegedly acting on behalf of Russian intelligence set fire to a Starlink ground station supporting Ukraine.
