Russia launched 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 drones at Ukraine overnight, leaving at least 600,000 people without power, while monitoring channels reported a record barrage of roughly 25 Zircon missiles aimed at Kyiv and the surrounding region.

Russian strikes on energy and critical infrastructure in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and Kharkiv left at least 600,000 people without electricity, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on October 14.

The Ukrainian President described the barrage as a deliberate strike on energy infrastructure that he said was specifically covered by a ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump. Zelenskyy argued that the scale of the operation represented an unusually open challenge to Washington.

“Overnight, the Russians used 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 attack drones and loitering munitions against our energy and critical infrastructure in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and Kharkiv. A targeted Russian ballistic missile strike specifically against energy infrastructure—the very infrastructure covered by the ceasefire announced by the American President,” Zelenskyy said.

Ukraine’s Air Force said air defenses neutralized 115 UAVs and four ballistic missiles during the barrage. The strikes nevertheless caused extensive damage, with Zelenskyy saying 26 facilities in Ukraine’s power system and four oil and gas facilities were affected.

“The strike was entirely deliberate and demonstrative in its scale—Russia has never before shown such ostentatious disrespect toward the United States. Russia does not consider the American President’s statements strong,” Zelenskyy added.

Ukrainian monitoring channels also reported that Russia used a record number of Zircon missiles during the attack, with roughly 25 reportedly launched against targets in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. Ukraine’s Air Force has not yet officially confirmed the figure.

“Unfortunately, at least 600,000 people are now without power. Outages could become even more widespread. Unfortunately, there is significant damage to facilities and equipment—at 26 facilities of our power system and four facilities in the oil and gas sector,” Zelenskyy stated.

He thanked repair crews, energy workers, and emergency personnel responding across the affected regions, adding that the strikes had caused deaths and injuries.

In Kyiv, the number of injured rose to 25. Among them was a 7-year-old girl in the Desnianskyi district who suffered cuts and burns to her hand.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, two people were killed and six others injured, while a business in Dnipro was damaged. Two more people were wounded in the Khmelnytskyi region, where a gas station was hit and a fire broke out at an industrial facility.

That brings the confirmed toll from the locations reported so far to at least two dead and 33 injured.

Zelenskyy called for a forceful international response, arguing that Moscow had rejected an opportunity for de-escalation.

“We ask America and EVERYONE in the world who does not turn a blind eye to reality to respond—and to respond forcefully. Russia has squandered the opportunity for de-escalation and has clearly chosen to continue its insane war of annihilation,” he said.

The Ukrainian leader specifically appealed to Trump to impose stronger sanctions on Russia, pointing to recently enacted legislation backed by US Sen. Lindsey Graham.

“We ask President Trump to impose STRONG sanctions on Russia, especially since the Lindsey Graham bill, which was recently passed and signed into law, authorizes and regulates such measures. The American President has all the effective and necessary tools to bring peace closer through strength, justice, and pressure on the aggressor,” the Ukrainian President wrote.

He also renewed Ukraine’s request for additional Patriot interceptor missiles as Russia expands its use of ballistic weapons, which are among the most difficult threats for Ukrainian air defenses to stop.

“We ask for additional packages of Patriot missile interceptors for Ukraine. It is entirely fair for us to tell the United States, Europe, and all our partners that no country in the world should be left alone to face such a deranged and pro-war actor as Russia,” Zelenskyy concluded.

Earlier, the Ukrainian President stated that Ukraine has refrained from striking Russian oil refineries and other energy facilities for two consecutive days following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of an energy ceasefire, while Russia has continued attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
