Russia Buries Three Tanks 65 Km Behind Front Line—Ukrainian Drones Dig Them Up

Ukrainian National Guard drone operators destroyed three Russian tanks concealed about 65 kilometers (40 miles) behind the front line in the Oleksandrivka sector, striking the vehicles despite efforts to protect them with dug-in positions and anti-drone shelters.

The operation was carried out by Lasar’s Group, a drone unit of Ukraine’s National Guard, which released footage of the strikes on its official Facebook page on September 27.

Russian forces had positioned the tanks well away from the immediate front line, partially burying the vehicles and constructing protective structures above them to reduce their exposure to drone attacks.

Lasar’s Group said information about the concentration of armored vehicles was initially provided by aerial reconnaissance teams from neighboring Ukrainian units. Its analysts then verified the location before strike drones were dispatched to the area.

The drones traveled approximately 65 kilometers into Russian-held positions and struck the three tanks one after another, according to the unit. Lasar’s Group said all three vehicles were destroyed before Russian forces were able to deploy them in combat.

The unit said Russian tanks have become less common near the front and claimed its crews have destroyed more than 2,400 Russian tanks since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.

“We can now destroy more tanks on our own than the Russians produce,” Lasar’s Group said.

Ukrainian drone units have also targeted Russian troops elsewhere on the Lyman front. On September 21, Signum released footage showing its operators striking Russian infantry, including troops moving on motorcycles.
