The monthly figures show a substantial increase in Russian losses during the summer and early autumn, rising from 26,090 in February to more than 42,000 in both July and August.

According to the figures provided, Russian personnel losses totaled 326,900 from January through September, with another 23,360 recorded in October as of October 15.

The latest figures published by Ukraine's Ministry of Defense provide additional context: estimated Russian personnel losses since the full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022, reached 1,559,230 as of October 15, 2026, including 1,880 over the preceding day.

The September figure translates to approximately 1,541 Russian personnel losses per day, compared with 932 in February.

The September surge included the highest reported daily toll of the full-scale war, with 2,090 Russian troops killed or wounded on September 28, surpassing three daily totals above 2,000 recorded in 2024.

Another 1,960 casualties were logged on September 16 as Russia maintained its offensive intensity in the fortress belt region, particularly around the Ukrainian stronghold of Dobropillia.

Russia's overall losses in Ukraine are estimated at roughly 100 times Soviet losses in Afghanistan, and 125 times Moscow's officially acknowledged toll in the two Chechen wars.

Internal documents from Russia's 127th Motor Rifle Division also point to widespread unauthorized absences, suicides, and serious disciplinary problems, suggesting official casualty records may lag well behind losses at the front.
