Rescue teams and emergency services were deployed to the scene to address the consequences of the attack. Officials reported that at least one woman was in critical condition among those injured.

On May 5, Russian forces targeted Zaporizhzhia with four guided aerial bombs and several drones, resulting in 12 deaths and 16 injuries. Among the fatalities was one victim who succumbed to injuries after being rescued from the rubble. Local officials confirmed that emergency crews worked to extinguish fires caused by the strikes, which damaged an infrastructure facility, a service station, and nearby residential homes.

The attack involved a "double-tap" tactic, where additional drones were directed at the site while rescuers and medics were already providing aid.

Authorities documented the event as a war crime, and the Zaporizhzhia City Council declared a day of mourning to honor the victims. Forensic experts and search teams continued to work at the scene to identify those who died, as the incident became part of a broader pattern of intensified strikes against civilian areas during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
