Russian Drone Strikes 25-Story Kyiv Apartment Building as More Than 100 UAVs Target Ukraine Overnight

According to the SES, the strike hit a 25-story residential building, sparking a fire on the 24th and 25th floors. Emergency crews extinguished the blaze, which spread across approximately 120 square meters, while around 40 square meters of the building sustained structural damage.
Rescuers brought two injured people out of the building and handed them over to medical personnel. The body of one person was discovered during firefighting operations, while six other residents were evacuated.
Emergency crews remain at the site, dismantling damaged structures and extinguishing remaining hotspots.
The strike was part of a wider overnight Russian aerial attack against Ukraine involving more than 100 strike drones, nearly 50 of which were jet-powered, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukrainian forces intercepted most of the incoming drones, although several strikes were recorded. In Kyiv, Russian Shahed-type drones struck the city’s Pivdennyi Bridge several times during the attack.

Zelenskyy also said Russia’s ability to increase production of drones and missiles continues to depend heavily on foreign-made components despite Moscow’s efforts to localize manufacturing.
“These supply chains run through Europe, the United States, China, Japan, and many other countries. Most of these companies are well-known manufacturers, yet their components continue to reach Russia,” Zelenskyy said. “Every Russian drone can realistically be stopped while still on the production line. What is needed is the political will of these countries. If the Kremlin has chosen more strikes, sanctions must work and be strengthened.”

The latest attack comes shortly after another Russian drone struck the grounds of Ukraine’s Institute for Nuclear Research in Kyiv, home to the VVR-M research reactor.
Ukraine’s State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate reported on October 1 that the strike occurred at 6:18 p.m. local time on September 30. Citing the Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the regulator said the attack caused a fire that was quickly extinguished, with no casualties reported.
