A Russian FPV drone struck a funeral procession on the outskirts of Sumy on May 23, killing one person and wounding eight others.

Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported the attack on Telegram.

“A cynical attack. Today, a Russian drone attacked a funeral procession on the outskirts of Sumy. People were injured,” Hryhorov wrote.

Serhii Kryvosheienko, head of the Sumy City Military Administration, said the strike was carried out by an FPV drone operating via fiber-optic control.

The drone hit the roadway next to a bus in the procession as it was moving toward one of the city’s cemeteries. Officials initially reported four wounded before Hryhorov later updated the toll to one killed and eight injured.

Four people received outpatient care, while another underwent surgery. Hryhorov said the critically wounded man later died in the hospital.

Russian FPV drones have repeatedly hit civilian sites in Sumy and nearby communities. A previous double drone strike on a kindergarten in central Sumy killed a female security guard and wounded two other staff members.
