Russians Hid 4 Howitzers in Cover—Ukrainian Drones Found Them Anyway

Ukrainian forces destroyed four Russian artillery systems using aerial reconnaissance and strike drones, Ukraine’s 44th Separate Artillery Brigade named after Hetman Danylo Apostol reported on September 28.

According to the brigade, Ukrainian forces detected and destroyed three Russian 2A65 Msta-B howitzers and one 2A36 Giatsint-B howitzer.
The brigade said Russian artillery remains a priority target because reducing the number of operational artillery systems helps limit threats to Ukrainian infantry operating along the frontline.
The strikes were carried out through coordinated operations involving reconnaissance and strike unmanned aerial systems, which were used to locate and engage the Russian artillery positions.
“Russian forces are attempting to conceal their equipment, regularly change positions, and use camouflage. However, our brigade’s aerial reconnaissance and strike UAVs allow us to locate the enemy even in places where they believe they are completely hidden,” the brigade concluded.
The destruction of the artillery systems comes amid broader Ukrainian strikes on Russian military infrastructure in occupied territories. On September 29 and overnight into September 30, Ukrainian forces struck a series of military facilities across the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions and Crimea.
The sites included a drone storage facility, a command-and-observation post, a repair base, and several logistics facilities. According to Ukraine’s General Staff, they were used by Russian forces to store drones, maintain military equipment, coordinate units, and support frontline operations.
