Slovakia Pledges €1M Aid Package for Generators, Shelters, and Medical Supplies

Slovakia will provide Ukraine with a €1 million ($1.12 million) aid package covering energy assistance, civil protection shelters, and medical equipment, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi.
The agreement was reached during joint government consultations in Lviv on November 5, where Koretskyi and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico signed a Declaration on Cooperation.

Under the agreement, Slovakia will deliver €500,000 ($561,855) in energy aid, including 54 power generators expected to arrive by the end of the month.
An additional €300,000 ($337,113) will serve as Slovakia’s second contribution to the Civil Protection Shelter Coalition, while €200,000 ($224,742) is allocated for medical equipment for Ukrainian hospitals.
“We focused specifically on cooperation within the European SAFE instrument. We will sign a Framework Agreement on financial cooperation. It will launch energy restoration projects under the Ukraine Investment Framework mechanism worth more than €100 million ($112.37 million),” said Koretskyi.

The bilateral discussions also addressed the opening of the remaining two negotiation clusters for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and the launch of an EU Macro-regional Strategy for the Carpathian Region. Furthermore, both sides covered the implementation of joint border controls and an electronic queue system.
In addition to financial aid, Slovakia announced the transfer of three electric locomotives to Ukrzaliznytsia. Ukrainian officials anticipate that these locomotives will begin operating on European-standard tracks in the Zakarpattia region by the end of the year.
Ukraine received $4.89 billion from the European Union under the Ukraine Support Loan program, as announced by Koretskyi on November 5.
The funding package allocated approximately $4.15 billion for macro-financial assistance to cover priority budget expenditures, while around $741 million was earmarked for the immediate needs of Ukraine’s Defense Forces. Koretskyi emphasized that this support was critically important for maintaining the state’s financial stability and strengthening its defense capabilities amid ongoing Russian attacks.
