Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has confirmed that Starlink and Starshield satellite communication systems are once again operating at speeds exceeding 400 kilometers per hour, restoring connectivity critical to Ukrainian military operations, including drones, logistics, and battlefield communications.

Responding to journalists’ questions on October 24, Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara said the ministry’s monitoring systems had recorded the restoration of high-speed connectivity.

“The Ministry of Defense’s monitoring systems are recording the restoration of Starlink and Starshield connectivity at high speeds. We are registering speeds exceeding 400 km/h, with stable connections,” Khmara said.

The minister attributed the development to direct negotiations and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s efforts at the highest political level.

“This is another example of how direct dialogue and the President of Ukraine’s persistent position at the highest level deliver results. Above all, this result is important for our front line, our military personnel, drone operations, logistics, and communications,” Khmara said.

He added that the Ministry of Defense would continue monitoring and documenting the performance of Starlink and Starshield systems. The announcement marks a significant change from the situation reported just a day earlier.

On October 23, Zelenskyy said Starlink and Starshield speed restrictions remained in place, despite earlier claims that connectivity had been restored.

The restrictions were first reported overnight on October 14, when SpaceX introduced a speed limit of approximately 160 km/h for Starshield terminals operating in motion, without advance warning to Ukrainian forces.

In some cases, Ukrainian units reported losing connectivity at even lower speeds. The disruptions affected interceptor drones, medium-range strike missions, reconnaissance, and frontline logistics.

On October 16, Zelenskyy said the restrictions had prevented Ukrainian forces from intercepting some Russian jet-powered Shahed drones, which can travel at speeds exceeding 400 km/h.
