Ukraine and Estonia Expand Defense Deal to Secure Interceptors and Drone Exports

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met in Kyiv with Estonian Defense Minister Martin Herem on October 9 to discuss securing additional financial support for air defense capabilities and exploring new contributions under the PURL initiative, which supplies Ukraine with crucial anti-ballistic interceptors.
The meeting centered on expanding joint efforts to protect Ukrainian airspace and strengthening bilateral military assistance.

"Estonia actively helps in this direction. We are grateful for every defense package and support for the PURL program, which allows us to receive ballistic interceptors. Today we discussed the possibilities of new contributions, as well as the search for additional funding for the procurement of air defense," the head of state shared in a post on Facebook.
Zelenskyy highlighted that the recently signed Drone Deal enables Ukraine to export its battlefield-tested defense technologies to Estonia.
This arrangement provides Tallinn with combat-proven systems while securing needed financial resources for Kyiv's defense needs. "Agreed that the teams will work promptly on filling such an export package," the President noted.

The President also expressed gratitude to Estonia for its steady assistance regarding Ukraine's ongoing integration into the European Union.
Previously, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal announced that Estonia was fully prepared to close its border crossings with Russia immediately if Moscow declared a general mobilization, following a government security cabinet meeting that evaluated potential Russian mobilization scenarios.
