Ukraine Blasts Key S-400 Radar in Sochi, Hits Drone Launch and Command Sites

Ukrainian forces struck a radar belonging to Russia’s S-400 air defense system in Sochi, as well as drone launch facilities, command infrastructure, and other military targets across Russia and temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories on September 13 and overnight into September 14.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on September 14, the strikes included a 92N6 multifunction radar in Sochi, Krasnodar region, which forms part of Russia’s S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile system.

The 92N6 radar is responsible for tracking aerial targets and guiding surface-to-air missiles toward them. It is one of the S-400 system’s central components for engaging aircraft, drones, and missiles.

Ukraine also struck facilities used to store, prepare, and launch attack drones near Kursk in Russia and in the temporarily occupied city of Donetsk, the General Staff said. A drone command post was also targeted in Novohrodivka in the temporarily occupied Donetsk region.

Additional Russian radar stations were hit near Litizh, Trostenchyk, and Lypovka in Russia’s Bryansk region. Ukrainian forces also targeted three Russian communications relay sites near Rokhmanove, Krasnyi Stiah, and Kamin in the same region.

In temporarily occupied Crimea, Ukrainian forces struck a short-range radio navigation system near Russia’s Saky airfield, according to the General Staff.

On September 12, Ukrainian drones struck military and industrial facilities in Taganrog and Tolyatti, including the Beriev aviation complex that services A-50 aircraft and Tu-95 strategic bombers, as well as the KuibyshevAzot chemical plant. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine later confirmed the strikes on the targets.
