Ukraine Blinds Russia’s Air Defenses, Hitting Eight Radar and Missile Systems in One Sweep

Ukrainian drone forces struck eight Russian air defense and radar systems across the Krasnodar region, targeting equipment used to protect military airfields and launch sites for Shahed-type attack drones.

Ukraine’s 1st Separate Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces reported the operation on August 2, saying the strikes were carried out more than 270 kilometers from the front line.

According to the unit, the operation targeted one Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile system and seven radar stations deployed near several settlements in southwestern Russia.

The reported targets included:

• a Tor-M2 air defense system near Yeysk;

• a Nebo-S radar near Yeysk;

• a Nebo-U radar near Primorsko-Akhtarsk;

• a Gamma-S1M radar near Yeysk;

• a Nebo-SV radar near Yeysk;

• a Kasta-2E2 radar near Kamyshevatskaya;

• a 37T radar near Prigibsky;

• a second Kasta-2E2 radar near Shabelskoye.

“During a single operation, the occupiers lost a number of key elements of their surveillance and air defense system,” the Unmanned Systems Forces said.

The military did not provide an independent assessment of the extent of damage to each system. Video released by the unit reportedly showed strikes against the identified positions.

The targeted radar systems are designed to detect and track aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones at different ranges and altitudes. The Tor-M2 is a short-range air defense system intended to protect military facilities and formations from aerial threats.

Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces said the loss of the systems would make it more difficult for Russia to defend military airfields and launch sites used for Iranian-designed Shahed-type drones.

The Krasnodar region hosts several military facilities involved in Russia’s campaign against Ukraine. Primorsko-Akhtarsk has repeatedly been identified by Ukrainian officials as one of the locations used to launch long-range attack drones.

The reported operation came amid a broader series of Ukrainian long-range strikes against Russian military infrastructure, oil facilities, and logistics sites. Ukrainian forces also reported attacks on the Saratov oil refinery and a major Wildberries logistics center in Russia’s Samara region.

Earlier, Ukraine’s naval drones sank the Yanina, a cargo ship operated by Russian logistics company FESCO, which has been controlled by state nuclear corporation Rosatom since 2023. The vessel was struck by two Ukrainian uncrewed surface vessels in the Black Sea and sank while sailing in international waters.
