Ukraine Hits Kasta and P-18 Radars Alongside Russian Attack Drone Facility

Ukrainian forces struck two Russian radar systems, a site used to store and launch attack drones, and a fuel depot during operations on September 23 and overnight into September 24, Ukraine’s General Staff reported.

According to the General Staff, Ukrainian Defense Forces targeted a facility near the city of Donetsk that Russian troops used to store, prepare, and launch attack drones. The military said targeting infrastructure supporting Russian drone operations remains one of its priority areas of combat activity.
Ukrainian forces also struck two Russian radar stations in occupied Ukrainian territories. A 35N6 Kasta radar was targeted near Chekhohrad, formerly known as Novohrodivka, while a P-18 radar was hit near Yakymivka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
The Kasta 35N6 is a mobile two-coordinate radar designed to monitor airspace, detect aerial targets, and identify aircraft, including those operating at low altitudes. The system consists of antenna and electronic equipment, operational stations mounted on military trucks, backup power units, and a remote operator console that can be positioned up to 300 meters from the radar.
The P-18, meanwhile, is a Soviet-designed mobile early-warning radar operating in the VHF band. It is used to detect aerial targets, determine their range and direction, and relay the information to air defense units, according to the General Staff.
The latest strikes follow another Ukrainian operation against Russia’s radar capabilities several days earlier. On September 20 and overnight into September 21, Ukrainian forces targeted a Russian Kasta radar valued at at least $60 million, as well as a drone command post and an area where Russian personnel were concentrated.
Ukraine’s General Staff reported that the radar was hit near Pikuzy in the temporarily occupied Donetsk region. During the same operation, Ukrainian forces targeted a Russian drone command post near Dniproenerhiia in the temporarily occupied part of the region.
