Ukraine Strikes $60 Million Russian Kasta Radar, Drone Command Post and Troop Concentration

Ukrainian forces struck a Russian Kasta radar system estimated to cost at least $60 million, as well as a drone command post and a concentration of Russian personnel during operations on September 20 and overnight into September 21.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on September 21 that the Kasta radar was hit near Pikuzy in the temporarily occupied Donetsk region.

The targeted system was identified as a Kasta-2E2 (39N6), a mobile radar designed to detect aircraft, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles operating at low altitudes. According to the General Staff, the system has a detection range of up to 150 kilometers and an estimated value starting at $60 million.

Ukrainian forces also struck a Russian drone command post near Dniproenerhiia in the temporarily occupied Donetsk region.

Separately, a concentration of Russian personnel was targeted near Stary Khutor in Russia’s Belgorod region, the General Staff said. The Ukrainian military did not provide details on the extent of the damage or Russian personnel losses at either location.

Earlier, on September 17 and overnight into September 18, Ukrainian forces disabled a Russian ground control station for Orion drones at the Saky airfield near Novofedorivka in temporarily occupied Crimea. The strike targeted infrastructure used to operate Russia’s Orion long-endurance reconnaissance and strike drones.
