Ukraine Knocks Out Pipeline Supplying 50% of Russian Forces’ Diesel in Occupied Luhansk

Ukraine’s Third Army Corps destroyed a fuel pipeline that supplied around half of the daily diesel requirements of Russian forces in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region, forcing Russian troops to move fuel supplies farther from the front.

According to Militarnyi on September 21, the pipeline ran from Russia’s Voronezh region into the temporarily occupied Luhansk region and served Russian forces operating in the area.
The Third Army Corps said Ukrainian forces targeted both the pipeline’s initial and final fuel reception points, as well as Russian fuel trucks involved in the supply network.

“It provided about 50% of the enemy’s daily diesel fuel needs. The headquarters and brigade general Andrii Biletskyi set the task of stopping the operation of this pipeline,” the corps told Militarnyi.
The strikes ultimately forced Russian forces to stop using the facility, according to the Ukrainian military. “This forced the Russians to completely shut down the facility,” the corps said.
The operation disrupted fuel logistics for Russia’s Zapad grouping of forces, according to Militarnyi. Russian fuel trucks now have to travel roughly 400 kilometers to collect supplies directly from Russia.
Third Army Corps commander Andrii Biletskyi previously said disrupting Russian logistics was among the objectives of Operation Vivaldi. As a result of Ukrainian actions, he said, Russian forces were forced to relocate fuel and lubricant supplies across the border into the Voronezh region.

The resulting fuel shortages have also affected equipment used by Russian frontline units, according to the corps. Ukrainian military personnel said Russian forces have faced difficulties fueling generators used to recharge drone batteries, while some electronic warfare systems have been operating on a limited basis.
The pipeline strike was part of the broader Operation Vivaldi, during which Ukraine’s Third Army Corps has targeted Russian command posts, communications, supply routes, crossings, and reserves while conducting offensive operations in the Donetsk region.
Across the operation, Ukrainian forces have returned 125 square kilometers to Ukrainian control, including 50 square kilometers of previously occupied territory.
