Ukraine Says North Korean Missile Launchers in Russia Will Be Destroyed if Deployed

Ukraine would treat any North Korean missile launchers deployed on Russian territory as legitimate military targets and move to destroy them, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated on August 5.
His remarks were reported by RBC-Ukraine on August 5 and addressed intelligence indicating that a North Korean missile unit could be stationed in western Russia.

Sybiha framed the launchers as an immediate battlefield concern rather than a purely diplomatic matter.
"These launchers, if they are deployed, must be destroyed. They immediately become a target, a legitimate military target, and accordingly, our military will react," the minister declared.
The warning responded to a Ukrainian intelligence assessment describing a North Korean missile unit beginning to deploy to western Russia.
According to the assessment, Moscow intends to build a force of up to 120 ballistic missiles and six launchers for strikes on Ukraine. The plan would station roughly 90 North Korean personnel in the Voronezh region and fold them into Russia's 112th Missile Brigade.
Sybiha noted that assessments shared by Ukraine's Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) generally prove accurate, and that Kyiv is tracking deepening cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang.
He warned that the pattern carries risks beyond Ukraine, reaching into the Indo-Pacific region, and confirmed that Ukraine is coordinating with allies, including Japan and South Korea.
The minister called for tighter sanctions and further isolation of the government in Pyongyang, urging the international community to combine pressure to end Russia's war.
The prospect of North Korean launchers on Russian soil follows the first confirmed use of a Pyongyang-supplied ballistic missile against Ukraine in nearly a year. In late July, an overnight strike killed members of a single family near Kryvyi Rih, breaking a pause that had held since August 2025 and signaling a fresh transfer of munitions from North Korea.
