Ukraine Strikes Plant Tied to Kh-101 and Oreshnik Production—Satellite Images Show the Damage

Satellite imagery has confirmed extensive damage at Russia’s Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant, a defense-industry facility linked to producing components for Kh-101, Kh-35U, Kh-59/Kh-69 cruise missiles, and the Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile, Militarnyi said, citing the imagery on September 27.

Imagery published by the OSINT community Absolutely Reliable shows strikes across six buildings that house at least five production shops at the plant.

Among the most heavily affected areas was Workshop 022, the foundry complex spread across two buildings. Satellite images show evidence of a fire and significant structural damage.

Workshop 024, responsible for mechanical processing, was also seriously damaged, with part of its roof collapsing following the strike.

Other affected facilities included Workshop 008, used for optics production, Workshop 009 for assembly work and Workshop 010, which handles electroplating processes.

The attack was carried out overnight into September 26 by the Ukrainian Navy together with the Security Service of Ukraine’s Alpha Special Operations Center.

Ukrainian forces reportedly used Neptune cruise missiles alongside Ruta, Palianytsia and BARS jet-powered drones in the operation.

The Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant is part of Russia’s Tactical Missiles Corporation and serves as one of the group’s important optoelectronic manufacturing sites.

Its production includes radar and infrared seekers for guided missiles, thermal-imaging equipment and electronic systems used in precision artillery. The plant also supplies components for anti-tank weapons, weapon-stabilization systems for armored vehicles, aviation and UAV navigation equipment, laser systems and electronic warfare technology.

Leaked internal documents examined by researchers have linked the facility to at least several major Russian missile programs.

Those include the Kh-31P anti-radiation missile, R-74 short-range and R-37M long-range air-to-air missiles, Kh-101, Kh-35U and Kh-59/Kh-69 cruise missiles, as well as the Oreshnik ballistic missile program.

Open-source information also links the plant to components for KAB-250, KAB-500 and KAB-1500 guided bombs and the Kh-38ML short-range air-to-surface missile.

Previously, a missile attack struck the Russian city of Taganrog, with reports indicating that the Beriev aviation complex, a key facility involved in repairing and modernizing Russia’s Tu-95 strategic bombers, may have been among the targets.
