Ukraine’s Drone Hunters Take Down Russia’s Rare $100,000 “Knyaz Veshchiy Oleg” UAV Over Sumy Region

Ukrainian forces have shot down a Russian “Knyaz Veshchiy Oleg” drone valued at approximately $100,000, alongside a significant number of other Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Ukraine’s 21st Separate Mechanized Brigade reported on October 26 that its interceptor drone units destroy dozens of Russian UAVs daily, targeting aircraft used by Russian forces to carry out repeated attacks against civilians in the region.
The brigade also reported intercepting numerous Russian Molniya drones, noting that although these UAVs are relatively inexpensive to produce, they can inflict significant damage.
“Our brigade’s interceptor drone crews shoot down dozens of enemy drones every day, which Russian forces continuously use to terrorize residents of the Sumy region,” the brigade added.
The Russian-developed “Knyaz Veshchiy Oleg” drone has a maximum speed of 130 km/h, an operating altitude of up to 100 meters, and a flight range of 45 kilometers.
According to Russian sources, one of the drone’s key advantages is its reported survivability, partly attributed to its resemblance to Ukrainian UAVs, which can make it difficult for Ukrainian troops to identify.
The drone is designed to conduct reconnaissance, adjust artillery fire, and assess the results of strikes carried out by other UAVs.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian drone units have continued targeting Russian military logistics, including a recent strike on a convoy carrying vehicles and fuel supplies.
On October 27, Ukraine’s 59th Assault Brigade of Unmanned Systems reported that operators from its Signum Battalion had destroyed three Russian Ural military trucks and two fuel tankers, forcing accompanying mobile fire teams to seek cover.
The strike came despite Russian efforts to disperse logistics operations following repeated Ukrainian middle-strike attacks. Russian troops reportedly assembled the convoy under the protection of pickup trucks carrying mobile fire teams, leaving the vehicles vulnerable to Ukrainian drones.
