Ukrainian Armor Unveils Saigak-1 and Varta-3 Armored Vehicles at MSPO-2026

Ukrainian defense manufacturer Ukrainian Armor presented two new armored vehicles, the Saigak-1 and the Varta-3, at the MSPO-2026 exhibition in Poland, according to a company press release on September 8.

Both vehicles are designed for the safe and rapid transport of security personnel during combat operations, special missions, training, and patrols. According to Ukrainian Armor, the vehicles are adapted for diverse terrains and all seasons, and can also be deployed for disaster relief and technological accident response.

The Saigak-1 features an armored hull with PZSA 3 ballistic protection and STANAG 4569 Level 1 mine protection. Built on an all-wheel-drive chassis with a 240-horsepower diesel engine, the vehicle can reach maximum speeds of 140 km/h and has a range of up to 600 kilometers using an 80-liter fuel tank.

The vehicle accommodates a crew of two and three additional personnel. To enhance safety, the Saigak-1 is equipped with front and rear cameras, an automatic fire suppression system, RunFlat tires, and climate control, Ukrainian Armor reported.

The heavier Varta-3 features PZSA 6 ballistic protection and STANAG 4569 Level 3a/3b mine protection. Powered by a 326-horsepower diesel engine with 1,400 Nm of torque and an automatic transmission, the 4×4 all-wheel-drive vehicle reaches speeds up to 100 km/h and has a gross weight of up to 14,800 kg. It is designed to transport a two-person crew and eight additional personnel.

For combat deployments, the Varta-3 can be equipped with a rotating machine gun platform or a remotely controlled combat module. It also includes mine-resistant seats, communication and navigation systems, video surveillance, an automatic fire suppression system, air filtration and ventilation, and RunFlat tires, according to the manufacturer.

“It has already become a tradition for our company to present new products at the MSPO exhibition in Poland. This year, we are also pleased to present two new armored vehicles. The Varta-3 is an updated and improved version of our Varta-2,” Vladyslav Belbas, General Director of Ukrainian Armor, stated.

“We developed it on the German Mercedes-Benz Unimog chassis. This allowed us not only to reduce the cost of the vehicle but also to improve its driving characteristics and off-road capability,” he continued.

Belbas added: “The Saigak-1 is a pickup-based armored vehicle aimed at replacing standard daily military transport with a more protected vehicle. We aimed to create a solution that combines mobility, practicality, and an additional level of protection for personnel.”

Also unveiled at MSPO 2026, Ukraine is developing a 35-ton tracked infantry fighting vehicle named Pegas, designed by the Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau.

The concept features NATO STANAG 4569 Level 6 frontal armor, an integrated anti-drone electronic warfare system, and the domestic BM Topaz combat module equipped with a 30 mm cannon, anti-tank guided missiles, and a grenade launcher.
