Ukrainian Border Guard drone pilots destroyed a Russian 2S7 “Pion” self-propelled artillery system on the Lyman axis shortly after it fired a volley, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) reported on May 18.

The operation was carried out by aerial reconnaissance pilots from the “Phoenix” unit, who tracked the heavy 203mm artillery piece as it attempted to relocate following its firing sequence.

“The enemy tried to hide the installation in the foliage, but did not make it in time,” the SBGS stated regarding the successful strike.

The destruction of the Pion system was part of a series of engagements across the eastern and southern fronts. According to the agency’s report, Ukrainian border guards also targeted Russian artillery positions in the Toretsk direction.

Further along the frontline, SBGS drone operators struck enemy logistical vehicles, specifically quad bikes, on the Huliaipole axis. Meanwhile, in the Dobropillia area, Ukrainian forces neutralized Russian infantry personnel and destroyed their localized shelters.

Similar drone and artillery operations recently repelled Russian assaults in the Kharkiv region. The National Guard of Ukraine’s “Khartiia” Brigade reported killing approximately 70 Russian soldiers north of Kharkiv over one week.

Utilizing FPV drones, drone-dropped explosives, and coordinated artillery fire, Ukrainian operators targeted Russian infantry moving across open ground and attempting to establish new footholds.
