Ukrainian Defense Minister Holds Talks With Palantir CEO on AI and Battlefield Technologies

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has held talks with the CEO of Palantir Technologies Alex Karp, focusing on potential cooperation in artificial intelligence, data analytics, and the scaling of advanced technological solutions for defense purposes.
According to the Ministry of Defense on May 12, Fedorov presented Ukraine’s defense strategy, structured around three operational domains: air, land, and the economic sphere.

A significant part of the discussions was dedicated to Ukraine’s air defense priorities, as reported by the ministry. Fedorov outlined key objectives, including achieving full identification of aerial targets, intercepting at least 95% of incoming threats, and integrating AI-based systems for forecasting and countering air attacks.
He also emphasized the broader strategic goal of gaining air superiority and transferring part of the combat operations onto Russian territory.
The minister noted that during the winter period alone, Russia deployed approximately 27,000 Shahed-type attack drones against Ukraine. Despite this, he said Ukraine has been steadily strengthening its detection and interception capabilities.

The minister also presented ongoing reforms within Ukraine’s armed forces and approaches aimed at deterring Russian advances on the ground.
Representatives of Palantir were introduced to Ukraine’s “Army of Drones. Bonus” system, as well as the operational principles of the “eBals” initiative. In addition, the Mission Control component of the DELTA battlefield management system was demonstrated as a tool transforming command-and-control processes.
Within the economic domain, Ukraine is further developing deep strike capabilities designed to target infrastructure that enables Russia to finance and sustain its war effort. The discussion also covered the role of international sanctions in weakening Russia’s military economy.
The Ministry of Defense team also presented Ukrainian AI-based solutions already in operational use, including systems for battlefield data analysis, target identification, mission planning, and enhancing the effectiveness of the Armed Forces.

Both sides discussed potential areas of future cooperation, with Ukraine and Palantir Technologies considering joint development of advanced digital defense solutions aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s security as well as that of its international partners.
In parallel, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also met with Alex Karp to further discuss the strategic partnership.
Zelenskyy described the meeting as constructive, emphasizing the gradual strengthening of cooperation with the American defense and technology sector.
“It was a good meeting with CEO of Palantir Technologies Alex Karp. Step by step, we are developing cooperation with the American defencs sector. Palantir is a global, well-known company with high potential, and there are certainly areas where we can be useful to each other, strengthening the protection of Ukraine, the United States, and our partners,” he said.

The president added that the parties had discussed technological development in both combat and civilian contexts and had agreed that their teams would remain in contact.
Just a day earlier, during his official visit to Ukraine, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius visited Ukrainian air defense installations, as announced by Ukraine's Ministry of Defense.
The ministry stated that the German delegation was provided with a demonstration of a command center and a mobile fire group. These units utilize a variety of defensive tools specifically engineered to neutralize Shahed-type drones, ranging from heavy machine gun emplacements to specialized interceptor UAVs.
