Ukrainian Drones Hit Major Russian Port Handling Up to 18 Million Tons a Year

Ukrainian strike drones reportedly attacked port infrastructure in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don overnight, sparking a fire in one of the facility’s cargo districts, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on July 27.

The attack occurred during the night of July 26–27 and targeted the fourth cargo district of Rostov Port.

A fire was recorded on the facility’s grounds following the strike.

MarineTraffic data indicated that five civilian vessels were on the Don River near the city at the time of the attack. There were no immediate reports that any of the ships had been damaged.

Rostov Region Governor Yury Slyusar confirmed that several fires had broken out following the drone raid, including on the grounds of a privately owned business and near warehouse buildings.

Russian media outlet Astra OSINT analysis identified Rostov Port as the site hit in the attack.

The company operates four geographically separate cargo districts, three of which are located within Rostov-on-Don itself.

Its infrastructure can simultaneously process as many as 16 river-sea vessels, each with a cargo capacity of up to 5,000 metric tons.

The wider Rostov commercial seaport has approximately 56 berths extending for more than 5.5 miles and an annual cargo-handling capacity estimated at between 15 million and 18 million metric tons.

Recently, Ukrainian long-range drones struck the Tyumen Oil Refinery in western Siberia, reaching a target located nearly 2,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Videos circulating online showed a fire at the facility, while Russian regional authorities confirmed that a drone had crashed on the refinery’s grounds.
