US Secretary of State Rubio Denies Any Pause in Intelligence Sharing With Ukraine

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied that Washington paused intelligence sharing with Ukraine, Reuters reported on October 19.
This contradicted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s account that the flow had briefly been interrupted before being restored.

“We are very thankful for this,” Zelenskyy stated. “Now it works.”
Rubio rejected that account during a visit to Uzbekistan on October 19, telling reporters in Samarkand that intelligence sharing had never been interrupted.
“I don’t know where he’s getting these things or why he’s saying these things to the press,” Rubio stated, according to Reuters. “You should go back and ask him. There’s been no pause.”
“What he should be focused on, and what we want to be focused on, is bringing an end to this war. That’s what he should be focused on,” Rubio added.
On October 18, Zelenskyy stated that recent US moves, including Starlink restrictions and delays in Patriot deliveries, increasingly looked like pressure on Ukraine to capitulate to Russia, while stressing that he did not believe Washington necessarily intended that outcome.
Reuters noted that the dispute is the latest in a series of public contradictions between Washington and Kyiv as relations have deteriorated sharply in recent days.

Zelenskyy has also stated that he believes the US government was behind recent restrictions affecting Ukraine’s use of SpaceX’s Starshield system, which plays an important role in defending against Russian drones and missiles.
US officials have denied that claim as well, Reuters reported.
Ukraine relies heavily on US intelligence to detect fast-moving Russian ballistic missiles launched against Ukrainian cities.
The dispute over intelligence sharing comes days after Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine received no advance warning before five Russian ballistic missiles struck civilian infrastructure in Kyiv. He stressed that early intelligence on ballistic launches is critical because the short flight time leaves civilians and air-defense crews only minutes to react.
