Ukraine has recorded what President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described as “specific activity” along sections of its northern border with Belarus, raising attention to potential developments in the area.

According to a statement published on Zelenskyy’s official Facebook account on May 2, the activity was observed on the Belarusian side of the border.

“The day before, there was quite specific activity in certain areas along the border between Ukraine and Belarus—from the Belarusian side. We are carefully recording everything, we control everything, and, if necessary, we will respond,” Zelenskyy said in his video address.

He added that Ukraine remains prepared to defend its sovereignty and warned that “everyone being drawn into any aggressive activity against Ukraine must understand this.”

The president did not specify the exact nature of the activity. However, his remarks follow earlier statements in which he suggested that Russia could attempt to further involve Belarus in its war against Ukraine. In April, Zelenskyy reported that infrastructure work had been observed near the border, including the construction of roads leading toward Ukraine and the establishment of artillery positions.

Separately, Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, said in a Telegram statement that all movements along the Belarusian border are being monitored. He assessed that potential actions from that direction are likely limited in scope, suggesting that “at most, minor provocations” could occur.

Earlier, on April 28, Ukraine’s Armed Forces began constructing a layered defensive line along the northern border from the Kyiv Reservoir to Sumy, extending up to 100 kilometers in depth. The fortifications are designed to prevent Russian forces from establishing a buffer zone and include new countermeasures against fiber-optic guided FPV drones.
