Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit London on October 14 as the UK prepares additional sanctions, military aid, and fiscal support for Ukraine while accelerating deliveries of air-defense missiles, the Office of the UK Prime Minister reported on October 14.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham is expected to host Zelenskyy at Downing Street and reaffirm continued British support for Ukraine. The government stated that ministers had been instructed to prepare further support packages in the coming weeks.

The visit comes against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump’s diesel deal with the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, and Washington’s threat to cut off intelligence sharing with Ukraine unless Kyiv stopped striking Russian oil refineries. Zelenskyy confirmed that the warning was delivered directly to Ukrainian military commanders, not to him.

The UK will also accelerate deliveries of Lightweight Multirole Missiles, which it described as effective against jet-powered drones increasingly used in Russian strikes far beyond the front line.

Britain announced £45 million ($59.7 million) in surface-to-air missile deliveries and has already committed £1.6 billion ($2.12 billion) to provide more than 5,000 LMMs to Ukraine over the next four years.

Of the newly announced package, £10 million ($13.3 million) will be accelerated to meet Ukraine’s most urgent winter air-defense requirements.

“Our rock-solid support to Ukraine is vital for keeping us safe here in the UK and ensuring those on the frontlines have the equipment they need to push back Russia,” Burnham stated.

“We are with you for as long as it takes, and we will go further and faster in our support to back your courageous fight for peace in Europe,” he added.

The UK is also urging international partners to increase sanctions pressure on Russia, and support calls for a full energy ceasefire.

The government stated that Britain remains committed to implementing a maritime services ban on Russian liquefied natural gas exports, restricting Moscow’s access to UK shipping and insurance services.

Chancellor John Healey is expected to use meetings at the IMF in Bangkok to urge other countries to adopt equivalent restrictions on Russian LNG.

“As the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Putin continues, our commitment to the Ukrainian people is unshakeable,” Healey stated. “I urge partners to back the ban on Russian LNG, like we have done in the UK, to curtail the war chest funding Putin so desperately wants.”

Canada has also pushed back against the US-Russia diesel agreement. Prime Minister Mark Carney warned that the deal could provide Moscow with additional revenue to fund its war against Ukraine, while reaffirming Ottawa’s commitment to sanctions pressure.
