Drone Debris Sparks Fire at Russian Petrochemical Facility Over 2,000 km From Ukraine

A fire broke out at an industrial facility in Russia’s Tyumen region after what local authorities described as the fall of drone debris. OSINT analysts identified the reported target as a key gas-processing unit at a major petrochemical complex.

Tyumen Region Governor Alexander Moor said a fire had started at one of the region’s industrial enterprises following the reported fall of drone debris. According to him, emergency services were working at the scene.

OSINT analysis by ASTRA identified the reported target as the Central Gas Fractionation Unit (CGFU) at ZapSibNeftekhim, a petrochemical facility in Tobolsk operated by Russian energy and petrochemical company SIBUR.

According to Exilenova+, the incident occurred more than 2,000 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border.

ZapSibNeftekhim is described as Russia’s largest petrochemical complex. The facility processes byproducts of oil production into polymers, with an annual production capacity of up to 2.5 million tonnes.

The CGFU processes a liquid mixture of gases into feedstock used to manufacture polyethylene and polypropylene. These materials are subsequently used in the production of components, pipes, packaging, and other products.

The incident follows a July 25 strike involving Ukrainian long-range drones against an oil-processing facility in western Siberia. Footage shared online showed a fire at the facility, while Russian regional authorities confirmed that a drone had crashed on the site.

According to Russian officials, local eyewitness footage, and geolocation analysis by OSINT projects Exilenova+ and Supernova+, the July 25 strike caused a fire at one of the facility’s processing units. The extent of the damage has not been independently verified.
