Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has reached the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto after defeating neutral player Ekaterina Alexandrova in the quarterfinals.

As reported by Suspilne Sport on August 11, Svitolina secured a comeback victory, overcoming Alexandrova in a match that lasted one hour and 34 minutes.

The Ukrainian struggled in the opening set, losing 3-6. She committed three double faults and converted only 58% of her first serves.

Svitolina responded decisively in the second set, not allowing Alexandrova to win a single game, the outket reported. The Ukrainian took the set 6-0 to level the match. She continued her momentum into the deciding set, taking an early 4-1 lead. Svitolina maintained the advantage and closed out the match 6-3.

The Ukrainian converted six of her eight break points during the match, while Alexandrova converted only three.

According to Suspilne Sport, the victory marks Svitolina's seventh WTA semifinal appearance in 2026. It is also her first semifinal in three months. Her previous appearance at this stage came in May in Rome, where she went on to win.

Just a month earlier, Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk reached the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time in her career after defeating Italy’s top-ranked player Jasmine Paolini in straight sets.

Kostyuk won the quarterfinal 6-3, 6-2 in a match that lasted one hour and 10 minutes.

The victory marked a major career milestone for the Ukrainian, who reached her first Wimbledon semifinal and broke into the WTA live top 10 rankings for the first time.
