Explosion Triggers Fire at Ammunition Storage Facility in Bulgarian Military Plant

A fire broke out at an ammunition storage facility at a military plant in Bulgaria on August 10 following a loud explosion, according to BTA.
The incident occurred near the village of Belitsa in the municipality of Tryavna, central Bulgaria.

Tryavna Mayor Dencho Minev said there were no casualties or injuries resulting from the explosion and subsequent fire. He added that the blaze had been brought under control and that all employees of the facility had been evacuated by bus.
According to BTA, detonations began at the ammunition depot after a truck caught fire.
Firefighters continued working to extinguish fires that had spread to nearby forested areas. The cause of the initial fire has not yet been established.
Authorities cordoned off the area and prohibited unauthorized access. A road junction near the village of Armyankovtsi was closed, and a checkpoint was established in the area. Due to smoke and concerns over air pollution, authorities urged local residents to keep their windows closed, use protective masks, and avoid going outside unless necessary.
The governor of Gabrovo Province activated the BG-ALERT emergency notification system and called on residents to follow instructions issued by the Interior Ministry and stay away from the incident site.
Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev said nearby settlements would be evacuated. According to him, authorities were still determining the cause of the incident, but preliminary indications suggested it was likely related to internal factors.
Several days earlier, an unidentified explosive-laden drone crossed into Bulgarian airspace from Romania and detonated near the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, which carries natural gas north toward Ukraine.
According to the Associated Press, citing Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev, the drone exploded shortly after 5 a.m. on August 8, around 100 meters inside Bulgarian territory after entering from Romania. No casualties or damage to buildings were reported.
