Mercedes G-Class Gets a Military Makeover in Rheinmetall’s New Timber Wolf and Silver Wolf

On September 17, Rheinmetall UK and Mercedes-Benz unveiled two new light tactical vehicles, Timber Wolf and Silver Wolf, at the DVD 2026 defense exhibition in Britain.
Both vehicles are built on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class W464 platform and join the manufacturer's Wolf Pack family, developed to meet the British Army's evolving tactical mobility requirements, Rheinmetall reported.

"The unveiling of Timber Wolf and Silver Wolf is an exciting next step for Team Wolf and demonstrates that the Wolf Pack is about much more than individual vehicles," stated Rebecca Richards, Managing Director of Rheinmetall UK.
The Wolf Pack, which also includes Shadow Wolf and Caracal, is designed as a single fleet capable of multiple missions, spanning:
command and general mobility;
troop transport and logistics sustainment;
ambulance and specialist roles.
Both Timber Wolf and Silver Wolf share a common base platform, with Mercedes-Benz supplying the vehicle foundation and Rheinmetall UK handling military integration and mission systems. The company noted that common chassis, systems and interfaces are intended to simplify training, maintenance and sustainment across the fleet.
Rheinmetall presented the Silver Wolf in a medical configuration, one of several roles the family is built to cover.
Olivier Reppert, CEO and Managing Director at Mercedes-Benz Cars UK, described the G-Class as a proven foundation.
"For more than 45 years, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has proven its strength in the toughest conditions," he added, noting that the partnership pairs the carmaker's platform with Rheinmetall's defense expertise.
The Wolf Pack will be engineered, integrated and supported at Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land in Telford. Team Wolf is targeting up to 50% UK content, engaging 30 UK suppliers, including small and medium-sized enterprises, and supporting hundreds of British jobs, Rheinmetall reported.
The program is designed to provide support for more than 20 years, with a clear route for upgrades and capability growth throughout the fleet's service life.
Rheinmetall's push into British Army mobility comes as the company deepens its defense-industrial footprint across Europe and inside Ukraine itself.
In early August, Germany moved to procure a third batch of Puma infantry fighting vehicles worth roughly €5 billion ($5.75 billion), an order expected to generate about €2.5 billion ($2.88 billion) for the manufacturer.
The firm has also begun opening a localized repair hub in Ukraine to sustain Marder infantry fighting vehicles and Leopard main battle tanks operated by Ukrainian forces.
