Rheinmetall will provide Ukraine with additional equipment for national defense, with the country expected to receive its first Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicles as early as the beginning of 2026, according to the Rheinmetall’s press release on January 12.

The agreement covering the initial delivery was signed in December 2025. The first batch, consisting of five combat vehicles, is valued in the mid double-digit million euro range and will be financed by the Federal Republic of Germany.

As reported by Rheinmetall, the Lynx KF41 was selected following extensive trials of the next-generation infantry fighting vehicle. The platforms will be fitted with a two-person Lance turret and tailored specifically to the operational needs of Ukraine’s armed forces. Further steps include procuring additional batches, with plans also envisaging production in Ukraine.

“We are grateful for the trust that Ukraine has placed in us. We would also like to thank the German government for its support. This order is a fundamental success that underscores our continued efforts to support Ukraine,” said Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG.

The Lynx KF41 family has been designed to address both current and future battlefield requirements, emphasizing a high degree of modularity. Featuring an open electronic architecture and the largest protected interior volume in its class, the vehicle offers significant potential for integrating future technologies and adapting to new mission profiles, Rheinmetall reported.

Its scalable weight concept, efficient powertrain, and advanced protection systems combine high mobility with maximum safety. In addition, the Lynx is noted for its strong focus on crew ergonomics, enabling effective and comfortable operation even during extended missions.

Earlier, Ukraine may have discreetly taken delivery of a new US-developed air defense system for operational trials, according to an analysis released by Defense Express on January 11.

The platform is believed to be Tempest, a recently developed short-range air defense system manufactured by US defense firm V2X, which employs AGM-114L Longbow missiles to intercept aerial targets.
