North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has inspected a newly unveiled nuclear materials production facility, as the country continues expanding its nuclear program.

According to Bloomberg on June 4, citing the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim visited a “newly inaugurated nuclear materials production factory” on June 3. The agency did not disclose the location of the facility.

KCNA published photographs showing Kim examining what appeared to be a uranium enrichment installation. Analysts suggested the site could be a newly established facility within the Yongbyon complex.

According to Bloomberg, Kim stated that North Korea’s “weapons-grade nuclear materials production capacity more than doubled” over the past five years.

He also introduced what the agency described as “action guidelines” aimed at accelerating the “qualitative and quantitative strengthening” of the country’s nuclear forces, without providing further details on the measures.

The inspection comes amid a broader pattern of intensified North Korean weapons development and testing activity.

On May 27, North Korea has carried out a new round of weapons tests involving tactical ballistic missiles, long-range artillery rockets, and AI-assisted precision cruise missiles under the supervision of Kim Jong Un

The Korean Central News Agency reported that the launches were intended to assess the operational performance of multiple weapons systems designed for modern warfare.

According to KCNA, the tests included a “special mission warhead” mounted on tactical ballistic missiles, as well as evaluations of long-range multiple-launch rocket systems and the targeting accuracy of AI-enabled tactical cruise missiles.

KCNA said Kim stated that the exercises demonstrated the successful modernization of North Korea’s weapons systems “to suit the proper conditions of modern warfare so as to enhance their application to combat.”

Recently, North Korea has revised its constitution to include a clause stipulating that its military would automatically carry out a nuclear strike if Kim Jong Un is killed.

Under the amended text, Kim is identified as President of the State Affairs Commission and formally designated as head of state. The document also states that the President of the State Affairs Commission holds command over the country’s nuclear forces.
