Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has demanded that the US explain comments made by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who said Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump made no deals during their meeting in Alaska, The Moscow Times reported on June 26.
Lavrov claims that during the talks in Anchorage, the American side put its own peace proposals on the table, and Putin completely agreed with them. According to the Russian minister, Putin went through the US ideas point by point in front of Trump and Rubio. He even checked with US representative Steven Witkoff to see if he wrote the ideas down correctly, and Witkoff said yes.

Lavrov argued that if one side offers terms and the other accepts, it is wrong for the US to say there was no agreement.
Before this, Lavrov complained that the US only used the Alaska meeting to buy time and send more weapons to Ukraine. He also noted that the “spirit of Anchorage"—which the Kremlin used to praise—is now quickly disappearing. Lavrov said the main achievement of that meeting was a clear understanding based on the proposals brought by Trump’s team, The Moscow Times wrote.

However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently made it clear that Trump did not make any deals with Putin. According to The Moscow Times, Rubio explained that it was only a proposal, not a final agreement. He added that the White House is ready to help stop the war in Ukraine, and Trump has been working on this issue for a year and a half.
This argument over the Alaska talks comes right after Russia turned down a peace plan from European leaders. Lavrov had recently rejected a proposal from the UK, France, Germany, and Ukraine that called for an immediate ceasefire and security guarantees for Kyiv.
Lavrov called the European plan an “unacceptable ultimatum,” claiming that the West was “just trying to use the deal to buy time on the battlefield.”
