Ukraine’s Acoustic SkyFortress Will Track Low-Flying Drones and Missiles Over Lithuania

Lithuania is deploying the Ukrainian-developed SkyFortress system to test acoustic and radio-frequency detection of low-flying drones and cruise missiles, the country’s Defense Ministry announced on October 2.

The Lithuanian Defense Ministry reported that SkyFortress will operate as an experimental airspace surveillance system capable of identifying objects by their acoustic or electromagnetic signatures. The system uses artificial intelligence to classify and track detected threats in real time.
“Instead of developing everything from scratch, we are adapting systems that are already operating in Ukraine,” Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas stated.

“SkyFortress complements the first stage of this chain—surveillance: with the help of artificial intelligence, the system detects and tracks low-flying drones or cruise missiles.”
Under an agreement signed this summer, the deployment includes processing sensor-collected data, using libraries of acoustic and radio-frequency digital signatures based on unclassified information, and training Lithuanian personnel.
Testing will assess SkyFortress’ ability to detect and identify low-flying unmanned aircraft under Lithuanian conditions.
Earlier in September, Lithuania itself confronted the challenge directly when NATO fighter jets shot down an unidentified drone that had entered Lithuanian airspace from Belarus, highlighting the urgency of enhanced detection capabilities across the Baltic region.
