Ukrainian Himera Secure Radio Network Covers Over 100 km² in Amazon Jungle Tests

Ukrainian defense technology company Himera Radios has completed field trials of its secure communications system in the Amazon rainforest, demonstrating voice and data coverage across more than 100 square kilometers in challenging terrain and weather conditions.

The tests were carried out in lowland areas of the Amazon during heavy tropical rainfall, according to a statement published by Himera Radios on August 10.
The company said the system continued operating despite dense vegetation, difficult terrain, and adverse weather conditions that can significantly affect radio communications.
One of the main objectives was to test whether Himera’s mobile, autonomous network infrastructure could rapidly extend communications coverage without relying on fixed infrastructure.
“One of the main results of the tests was confirmation that the mobile autonomous network infrastructure can rapidly expand the communications coverage area,” the company said.

During the trials, Himera deployed a network capable of transmitting both voice and data and covering an area of more than 100 square kilometers, according to the manufacturer.
The company said testing in the Amazon was intended to assess the communications system under real-world conditions in which terrain, vegetation, and weather can limit signal range and network reliability.
Himera Radios has previously conducted field trials outside Ukraine. The company earlier tested its tactical communications system during two weeks of exercises in the United States.
Its radios and relay systems were also tested in Ukraine’s Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, an area characterized by forests, abandoned infrastructure, and uneven terrain.
Earlier, HIMERA successfully tested its tactical communications systems during NATO-standard military exercises in the United States. The trials included the G1 PRO radio and B1 and R1 relay units, with the G1 PRO demonstrating more than 48 hours of autonomous operation.
