Zelensky Holds Talks With Trump Envoys Witkoff and Kushner

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conversation on July 22 with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, special envoys for President Donald Trump.
The discussion focused on ideas to reactivate diplomatic efforts aimed at ending Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

President Zelenskyy confirmed that the dialogue centered on intensifying diplomatic measures and bringing peace closer.
"Peace is needed — peace with dignity, and Ukraine has long been ready for this. Our teams remain in close contact, in particular to continue working on everything discussed," Zelenskyy stated.
He expressed gratitude to Witkoff and Kushner for their personal efforts toward peace, as well as to President Trump and the American people for their ongoing support.
The conversation follows earlier statements in early April when Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, told Bloomberg that Witkoff and Kushner might make their first visit to Ukraine.
President Zelenskyy subsequently noted that the envoys confirmed their intention to travel to Kyiv, though specific dates were not set. He highlighted the importance of a visit to Ukraine, pointing out that both envoys had visited Moscow multiple times.
"Putin’s inner circle is signaling to us and our partners that they realize Putin himself is the reason the war does not end, and Putin alone is the reason for the losses Russians are suffering," Zelenskyy stated.
Ukraine had recently proposed to facilitate direct, face-to-face peace negotiations between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France.
The plan, which envisioned talks mediated by G7 leaders, received no formal diplomatic response from the Kremlin; instead, Russian forces launched a coordinated shelling attack across Ukraine, an escalation that officials in the presidential office characterized as Moscow’s definitive response to the meeting offer.
