Zelenskyy and Trump’s Representatives Discuss Path to Ending Russia’s Full-Scale Invasion

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with United States presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on June 8.
Zelenskyy described the conversation in a Telegram post as a positive step toward advancing diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

He emphasized that both parties are prepared to work actively in the coming weeks to find a resolution. While the global community is currently focused on events in Iran, the President noted that peace in Europe remains a top priority.
During the call, they reviewed perspectives regarding the upcoming G7 summit and other scheduled events for June. Zelenskyy also shared intelligence concerning Moscow’s current intentions and expressed his appreciation for the respect shown toward the Ukrainian people and their stance.
These discussions follow earlier announcements made by President Zelenskyy on May 8, when he indicated that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would connect with Ukrainian leadership between spring and summer.
Both figures serve as part of an American delegation acting as mediators in negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow. While the Kremlin stated on May 20 that the two envoys were expected to visit Moscow, no specific dates or details regarding that potential visit were provided.

The last trilateral negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States took place on February 17–18 in Geneva, Switzerland. Those talks were centered on the technical aspects and mechanics of potential solutions.
Following the first day of that summit, Steve Witkoff reported significant progress, noting that both sides agreed to update their respective leaders and continue working toward a peace agreement.
President Zelenskyy later remarked that those discussions achieved a level of constructiveness, particularly regarding the monitoring of a ceasefire, with the expectation that the American side will participate in that process.
The leaders of the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Ukraine convened in London on June 7 to outline the foundational conditions for a future peace settlement. During the meeting, they collectively called for an immediate ceasefire and emphasized that any diplomatic resolution required full respect for Ukraine’s sovereign borders.
Furthermore, the participants confirmed that Russian assets were to remain frozen until Moscow ended its war against Ukraine and provided compensation for the resulting damages.
