Russia's Major Electronic Music Festival Outline Canceled Over Fear of Ukrainian Drone Strikes

The Outline electronic music and art festival, which was scheduled to run for seven days from July 21 to July 27, 2026, in the Moscow region, has been canceled.
Local organizers announced the decision at 18:10 on July 21 after receiving official instructions from the administration of the Taldomsky district, according to Meduza on July 21.

Authorities ordered the event to be shut down "in connection with the threat of drone danger in the region of the event" amid Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
While the lineup mainly features Russian musicians and DJs, the festival occasionally manages to invite international performers. Ukrainian activist Maya Baklanova published the full list of foreign attendees, noting: "Here are the international artists who were willing to perform there despite its full-scale war against Ukraine."
The list includes Derrick May, Atom™, A Guy Called Gerald, DJ Jus-Ed, Cezar, Tania Vulcano, Daniel Bell, Cabanne, Piticu, Daox, Mihael Simic, Childplay, Eiger Drums Propaganda, Violetov General, Mick Wills, Blackmoon77, Sacha Mambo, Ron Morelli, Dressel Amorosi, Vahan Stepanyan, DJ Pierre, Ad Usum Delphini, and Heinrich Dressel + Sonobe from the United States, Great Britain, Germany, France, and other countries.
Russian performers such as Husky, Zhanna Aguzarova, and Timofey Yakimov (tima istshet svet) were also set to take the stage.
Outline is an annual electronic music and contemporary art festival that has been held in Russia since 2014.
Historically hosted in repurposed industrial spaces and abandoned factories across Moscow, the festival moved to open-air woodland locations in the Moscow region in recent years.
Previous editions of the event have drawn criticism over visible links to the war effort. Attendees at earlier events reported military recruitment tents displaying propaganda posters set up near the parking areas, alongside vehicles marked with the pro-war "Z" symbol on festival grounds.
Former Moscow artist Pavel Milyakov (also known as Buttechno) criticized artists agreeing to perform in Russia under current conditions. In comments to Resident Advisor, he stated that such participation normalizes life under the regime and generates tax revenues that fund the military budget, describing the decision as a complete lack of awareness, empathy, and responsibility.
Recently, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin claimed that Russia’s Moscow region was targeted by 1,892 Ukrainian drones between July 11 and July 18. He added that Russian air defenses reportedly intercepted the majority of them before they reached the capital.
The wave of long-range strikes continued overnight into July 18, hitting key industrial and logistical infrastructure. In Elektrostal, a drone operation conducted by the Unmanned Systems Forces' 1st Center struck a major Wildberries distribution hub, causing a massive warehouse fire. Simultaneously, an oil storage facility in Noginsk holding 24 fuel tanks was hit, impacting a regional transfer hub that distributed gasoline and diesel fuel across the region.
