Ukraine’s Armed Forces will receive an upgraded UAT.GYURZA-02 armored vehicle equipped with a camera system, mine protection, and integrated artificial intelligence tools, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry press service reported on June 22.

The vehicle was modernized in response to requests from the military. Designers strengthened its independent suspension, replaced several components, and installed tires with improved performance.

According to the ministry, the changes increased the vehicle’s mobility and survivability in difficult combat conditions.

The armored hull was also fitted with a circular anti-fragmentation liner, improving protection for the crew, troops, and internal equipment against shrapnel.

The upgraded GYURZA-02 weighs just over 18 tons. Its payload capacity has increased to 2.5 tons, ground clearance has grown to 380 mm, and its operational range now reaches up to 1,200 kilometers. The vehicle’s maximum speed is 110 km/h.

Its mine protection is designed to shield the crew from a mine blast equivalent to 8 kilograms of TNT.

The improved Gyurza-2 can be produced in two versions: with a rotating weapons turret or without one.

The vehicle is equipped with ventilation, heating, air conditioning, an autonomous fuel heater, and other support systems.

It also includes fire suppression systems for both the engine compartment and troop compartment, a night vision package, and a television observation system using four video cameras.

The Defense Ministry said the vehicle can also be equipped with software that uses artificial intelligence to monitor the external environment.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense approved the domestically produced MAC OWL armored vehicle for service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The vehicle, also known by its Ukrainian name Sova, was developed by Ukrainian company MAC HUB in partnership with Paramount Industries Innovation Systems Greece and was presented during Eurosatory 2026 in Paris.
