The vehicle, also known by its Ukrainian name Sova, was developed by Ukrainian company MAC HUB in partnership with Paramount Industries Innovation Systems Greece and was presented during Eurosatory 2026 in Paris.

According to Defence Blog on June 16, the Ministry of Defense classified the MAC OWL as the most highly protected domestically produced armored vehicle in its category. The platform was designed to address battlefield threats that have become common during Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, including landmines, artillery fragments, and FPV attack drones.

The MAC OWL belongs to the mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) class of vehicles and is based on design elements from Paramount Group’s Mbombe 4 infantry combat vehicle. According to Defence Blog, the vehicle meets NATO STANAG 4569 Level 4a/4b mine-protection standards, allowing it to withstand blasts equivalent to 10 kilograms of TNT beneath either the wheel or hull.

The report states that the vehicle also features reinforced side armor and can be equipped with up to 10 electronic warfare modules intended to counter radio-controlled FPV drones. Such systems are designed to disrupt drone control and video transmission links, although they are generally less effective against fiber-optic drones.

MAC HUB Director Oleksandr Dubyna said the vehicle was developed using lessons learned from the battlefield and feedback from Ukrainian troops.

“We drew on the very best of global expertise in the design and production of armoured vehicles and took into account the unique realities of the war being fought in Ukraine,” Dubyna said.

“Our primary mission was to protect the lives of the MAC OWL armoured vehicle’s crew. To achieve that, we selected only the most reliable, combat-proven components, integrated the latest technologies, and spent countless hours refining every detail.”

According to Defence Blog, the vehicle also incorporates an independent suspension system designed to improve mobility across rough terrain, including muddy and heavily damaged battlefield environments where armored vehicles often operate.

The MAC OWL was developed through cooperation between MAC HUB and Paramount Industries Innovation Systems Greece, part of the Paramount Group defense company. According to Defence Blog, the project combines Paramount’s experience in mine-protected vehicle design with Ukrainian battlefield requirements and domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Earlier, Ukrainian defense company Inguar Defence unveiled the Inguar-4 armored recovery vehicle, a domestically developed 6×6 platform designed to recover and tow damaged armored vehicles weighing up to 30 tons. The company said the vehicle is compatible with several Ukrainian and Western platforms, including the M113, MaxxPro, Kirpi, Kozak, Roshel, and Novator.
