13-Year-Old Boy Rescues Passengers From Burning Bus After Russian Missile Strike in Sumy

A 13-year-old boy in Sumy managed to escape a burning bus after a Russian missile strike on April 13 and helped save others’ lives.
According to the outlet Kordon.Media, the attack caused the bus to catch fire with passengers still inside. Among them was 13-year-old Kyrylo Illiashenko and his mother. With the doors jammed shut, Kyrylo climbed out through a shattered window and helped others escape the bus.
Kyrylo was injured in the blast—three pieces of shrapnel struck his head. Doctors have already removed one fragment, and the boy remains under medical supervision, according to Sumy’s acting mayor, Artem Kobzar.

His mother said Kyrylo will undergo further examinations. She was alsoм wounded but is in stable condition.
The publication reports that Kyrylo is an eighth-grade student at Sumy School №4 and a member of the Fakel Youth Sports School, where he practices freestyle wrestling.
Most of the bus passengers, including the driver, were killed in the attack.
