3200 Civilian Casualties, Including 600 Deaths, Recorded in Ukraine, Becoming the Highest in 3 Months Since 2022
From June to August 2024 over 3200 civilian casualties, both wounded and killed, were recorded in Ukraine, according to the Norwegian Refugee Council citing the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Group.
That is a 33.7% increase compared to the same period last year and the highest number of casualties in three months since 2022, in total Russia killed 579 civilians in the last three months.
Russian strikes killed 161 people and wounded 717 in June; killed 24, injured 1112 in July; killed 184, wounded 856 in August this year.
The Russian offensive in the East of Ukraine, massive strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure, and regular strikes on residential areas all over the country led to a sharp increase in civilian casualties, especially after Russian forces adopted their new tactics of ‘double tap’ strikes.
Earlier, a Russian strike on an apartment building in Kharkiv wounded 21 people.
Russian forces also used a guided aerial bomb to hit Zaporizhzhia for the first time, injuring at least 21 and damaging multiple residential buildings.
