American Businessman Howard Buffett Visits Ukraine’s Southern Border to Discuss Cooperation
American philanthropist and businessman Howard Graham Buffett recently visited Ukraine’s southern border to meet with representatives of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS). According to the SBGS, Buffett was briefed on the specifics of border protection in the region and the engineering infrastructure supporting security operations.
The meeting included discussions between Buffett and Brigadier General Yuriy Petriv, head of the Southern Regional Directorate of the SBGS. General Petriv provided insights into the operational challenges and strategies employed in safeguarding the Ukrainian-Moldovan border.
During the visit, Buffett and SBGS representatives explored avenues for further collaboration aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of border security. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation to address current and future challenges in the region.
The SBGS highlighted Buffett’s ongoing support for Ukraine, noting his significant contributions to promoting Ukraine’s sovereignty and international presence. In recognition of his efforts, Buffett has been awarded the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, the National Legend of Ukraine distinction, and the Golden Heart award.
Howard Buffett, the middle son of billionaire investor Warren Buffett, is widely known for his philanthropic activities and environmental advocacy. He serves as the chairman and CEO of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, which focuses on global development and conservation efforts.
Earlier, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation constructed a dry port with a 30,000-ton grain elevator on Ukraine’s border with Hungary to support export diversification. Buffett emphasized the importance of creating logistics hubs to transfer grain from rail to containers for further shipment. Since the full-scale Russian invasion, the foundation has invested over $500 million in Ukraine, including support for farmers and humanitarian demining efforts.
