As Russian Officials Deny Involvement in Kyiv Hospital Strike, Evidence Exposes Its Deliberate Nature

Authors

During a recent briefing, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian President, denied Russian involvement in the missile strike on Kyiv’s “Ohmatdyt” hospital, stating it was a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile and emphasizing Russia’s targeting of military and critical infrastructure.

Contrary to Peskov’s assertions, evidence and reports from various sources provide a different perspective. On July 8th, 2024, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine, striking civilian areas including the country’s largest children’s hospital. Over 40 missiles, including a long-range cruise missile, hit “Ohmatdyt,” resulting in deaths and injuries.

Eyewitnesses and rescue efforts describe the aftermath of the attack, with survivors trapped and Ukrainian authorities rushing to provide aid. The strike has drawn international criticism for targeting civilians.

Russian state media swiftly propagated false narratives, including baseless accusations against Western intelligence and attempts to justify the attack. Within minutes of the strike, Russian-controlled media outlets began spreading disinformation to deflect blame and obscure Russia’s role in the tragedy.

Russia’s claim that a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile struck the Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital has been refuted by evidence and reports, which confirm the use of a Russian Kh-101 missile in the deliberate attack. It has been confirmed that children who were patients at the hospital were among those impacted by the missile strike.

The rapid dissemination of misleading narratives underscores Russia’s systematic use of propaganda to distort global perception of its military actions in Ukraine.

On July 8, 2024, a Russian missile strike targeted “Ohmatdyt” Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, resulting in extensive damage. The hospital, Ukraine’s largest for children, sustained destruction to multiple departments including surgical, intensive care, oncology, and hematology. The attack killed one doctor and injured 20 people, including children.
