President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced in a phone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that 37 people, including three children, were killed, and 170, including 13 children, were injured in a Russian missile attack on Ukraine, on Monday, July 8.

“I am grateful to Prime Minister Trudeau for his support,” Zelenskyy said. “We discussed joint actions to deliver a strong and fitting response to this act of terror by Russia.”

The State Emergency Service reported that yesterday’s attack on the capital Kyiv resulted in 27 deaths, including 4 children, and 117 injuries. A boy’s body was found in the Shevchenkivskyi district during night excavations.

Kyiv City Administration reported at least 2 killed and over 50 injured as a result of the attack on the “Ohmatdyt” Children’s Hospital.

According to the report, the dead include a doctor and a relative of a patient. Seven children were injured, with four requiring hospitalization. The data is preliminary as the rescue operation continues.

Over 600 patients and staff were present at the “Ohmatdyt” hospital when the rocket attack struck. Evacuation efforts are ongoing.

The attack caused significant damage. The department of chronic and acute intoxications (children’s dialysis unit) was completely destroyed. In the old surgical building, windows were shattered, and surgical and somatic wards, the intensive care unit, and the operating block sustained substantial damage. The new building suffered damage to 12 departments, including 8 surgical departments, 5 oncology departments, 2 intensive care units, an operating room, and a radiology and radiation therapy department. Part of the country’s only oncology and hematology laboratory was also destroyed.

On July 8, Russian forces targeted five Ukrainian cities with over 40 missiles of different types. In 2024, Russia began to employ a dozen different types of missiles to bombard Ukrainian territory, ranging from modern weaponry to remnants from Soviet times.
