Belarus Says It Received an Invitation From Donald Trump to Join the Gaza Board of Peace

US President Donald Trump has invited Belarus to join a new international body, the so-called “Board of Peace,” Belarus’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ruslan Varankov said, according to Babel on January 19.

Varankov said Minsk received a personal message from Trump addressed to Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

Belarusian authorities said they “highly appreciated” the proposal and viewed it as recognition of Belarus’s international standing and Lukashenko’s personal role. The invitation was reported to Lukashenko, who, according to Varankov, responded positively.

Trump’s “Board of peace” was unveiled in Washington on September 30, 2025, as part of a 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the war in Gaza.

The initiative oversees the creation of a council led by the US president alongside former UK prime minister Tony Blair, an amnesty for Hamas, and the designation of Gaza as a “deradicalized zone that would not pose a threat to its neighbors”, Babel wrote.

Trump has already invited several world leaders to take part, including Argentinian President Javier Milei and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The plan drew sharp criticism from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said the initiative concerning Gaza had not been coordinated with Israel.

According to FT, some in the Trump administration view the Board of peace as a potential alternative to the UN for resolving global conflicts.

A separate Board of Peace dedicated to Russia’s war against Ukraine is described as part of the same 20-point peace framework currently being discussed by Ukraine, the US, and European partners.

Previously, the Kremlin has also claimed that Russian leader Vladimir Putin has been invited to join a new US-backed Board of Peace, though the assertion has not been confirmed by Washington.
